Red Shirt Lake is located within the Nancy Lake Recreation Area which contains over 35 lakes. The recreation area offers multiple activities for every lake-goer. In the summer it offers boating, fishing, hiking, camping, swimming, and nature viewing. In the winter, visitors can enjoy skiing, snow-machining, ice fishing, dog mushing, and snowshoeing.
For boaters, the park has two boat launches. The first is located on Nancy Lake and the other on Lynx Lake. There are also 5 canoe launches and multiple canoe trails. For campers, the South Rolly Lake Campground is available for public use with 96 sites. The campground offers tent and RV camping and has road access, water, and public use facilities. There are also 13 public use cabins located in the park, five of which are on the shores of Red Shirt Lake. Nature enthusiasts and hikers will enjoy the winter and summer hiking trails offered by the park. Some of the wildlife that can be seen include moose, loons, arctic terns, eagles, beavers, black bears, and brown bears.
